Comprehensive support for Spanish and French AI Speaking Assessment

Today we are pleased to expand Speechace’s multi-language support by announcing Beta availability of new Spanish and French features:

  1. Pronunciation and Fluency scoring for Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish
  2. Spontaneous Speech Transcription and Scoring for Spanish and French
  3. Task Achievement scoring for Spanish and French

The new capabilities are accessible through the Speechace API and the Speechace Speaking Test allowing Developers, Educators, and Businesses to create rich AI scored speaking activities or tests in Spanish and French.

Pronunciation Assessment

Learners can be presented with words and sentences to practice in Spanish with automatic scoring and feedback at the word, syllable and phoneme level.

Our new Spanish models are specifically trained and tested to evaluate non-native speakers of Spanish.

Fluency Assessment

Learners can be presented with a short paragraph or to read aloud in Spanish with automatic CEFR fluency scoring based on their ability to maintain the correct rhythm, pace, pausing and fluency.

Spontaneous Speech Assessment with Task Achievement

And finally with this release we introduce Spontaneous Speech transcription and scoring for Spanish and French. Our Speech-To-Text models are specifically tuned for transcribing non-native speech and tested on learners of all levels.

Our Task Achievement scoring uses a built-in fine-tuned LLM embedded within the Speech API and specifically trained to support language learning tasks.

With this capability you can create speaking activities which test the learner’s comprehension, ability to respond correctly to a task or prompt with correct, precise, intelligible and natural language.

Here are some example activities we have seen created during the private beta phase:

  • Answering a question correctly
  • Asking a question correctly based on an instruction
  • Describing an image, media, video
  • Summarizing a story or article
  • Responding using particular target language or grammatical construct
